Op. Dr. Atilla Kaya Who is it?

Dr. Atilla Kaya, a specialist in general surgery and medical aesthetics, was born in 1961 in the district of Ceyhan in Adana. After completing his primary and secondary education in Malatya, he moved to the capital, Ankara, for higher education.

He began his medical education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1980, graduating in 1986. Following graduation, he was assigned to his first post in the district of Nusaybin in Mardin. He later served at the Gölbaşı Municipality in Ankara.

In 1988, he started his residency in general surgery at what was formerly known as Samatya SSK Hospital, now part of the Ministry of Health Istanbul Training and Research Hospital, and completed his specialization there between 1988 and 1993.

Upon completing his residency, he was assigned to Elmadağ State Hospital in Ankara for his mandatory service.

VISION
When you ask children “what will you be when you grow up,” girls generally respond with “nurse” and boys with “doctor.” I am happy to say that I had such a dream and I have realized it. Of course, dreams do not end with just becoming a doctor or a specialist. Afterwards, new dreams, goals, and purposes emerge.

I Work to Provide the Best Opportunities for People
I have always seen surgery as an art and treated it as such. To improve my craft, I almost always asked myself, “how could I have performed this surgery better?” This question has continually driven me to do better. As a doctor, I can say that I have made it a principle to always provide my patients with the best and most advanced facilities. I constantly research in this field and think about what new things I can do. I prioritize people’s happiness as much as their health.

Love for Animals
There’s a saying I find inaccurate but fitting for my situation: “Someone who doesn’t love animals can’t love people.” Throughout my life, I’ve always had a dog. Even during my university years, I had a dog and a cat. Currently, I have two dogs named Leo and Eyşan, and a cat named Detan. My spouse is also an animal lover, which has been fortunate for me, and naturally, my daughter is a keen animal lover too.

Aiming to Remove Hair Loss as a Problem
Millions of adolescents begin to experience hair loss, which progresses towards baldness. This situation often brings psychological issues and panic for everyone affected.

Time is wasted on ineffective treatments, unnecessary expenses, or the use of products without knowledge, often without any solution. To address this, I began focusing on medical aesthetics for individuals who have permanently lost their hair, providing scientifically informed treatments.

MISSION
Like everyone, I certainly have many visions. Shall we take a look at which ones I’ve accomplished so far?

I Brought Scientific Solutions to Hair Problems.
In the vision section, I first thought about how I could help people with hair problems. I have conducted numerous studies and projects in this field. I want to mention that there are websites and even a book I have written about the causes of hair loss and its solutions.

I Wrote the Book ‘Hair Transplantation and Everything About Hair’
While hair loss is a problem for many people, for some, it represents a significant financial gain. Many profit unfairly by easily selling mostly ineffective products. Others take advantage of the situation by performing hair transplants without proper knowledge or qualifications.

Note: I want to mention that I stopped performing hair transplant procedures a few years ago due to the busyness of my other work.

I Am the First Doctor in Turkey to Perform Eyebrow Transplants
While hair loss is a common issue for men, women often face problems with eyebrow thinning and loss. To address this, I performed the first eyebrow transplant in Turkey.

In this field, I have unfortunately had to disrupt the operations of those exploiting ineffective solutions, such as permanent makeup, which have only provided temporary and unsatisfactory results. By performing eyebrow transplants, I have provided a permanent solution.

I even wrote articles on how to perform eyebrow transplants, providing educational content for those who believed they were performing the procedure correctly. To date, I have performed over 1,000 eyebrow transplants.

I Was the First Doctor to Consider Beard Transplants
While addressing eyebrow-related issues in women, I also saw that I could solve problems such as scar and surgery marks in men’s eyebrows. Later, I realized that scars and burn marks in the beard and mustache area could also be camouflaged, leading me to perform the first beard transplant.

Over the years, I have demonstrated that conditions like alopecia barbae, where no beard hair grows at all, can be resolved through hair follicle transplants. As the fashion for long beards began, particularly influenced by the TV series “Magnificent Century,” I saw that sparse beards could be thickened, and I have transplanted beards, mustaches, and sideburns for thousands of individuals.

I Enhanced the Technological Infrastructure of Osmaniye State Hospital

After becoming a specialist in general surgery, I continued my career in Osmaniye. In 1995, the technology available was not sufficient. I introduced the hospital to several innovations such as laparoscopy, gastroscopy, rectoscopy, and laser treatments for the first time.
Noticing the technological deficiencies in the region, I opened the first laser centers in Kahramanmaraş and İskenderun, similar to what I did in Osmaniye.

I Developed Micro Sinusectomy, One of the Most Successful Methods for Pilonidal Sinus Surgery.

As you know, I am a specialist in general surgery and medical aesthetics. Let’s take a look at some of the innovations I have introduced in the field of general surgery. One of the major issues for young men is pilonidal sinus (pilonidal disease), which continues to be a risk until the age of 35-40. The only solution has been surgery.

To date, over 20 different methods have been developed for pilonidal sinus surgery. Each method presented significant challenges and caused substantial loss of work for patients. To address this, I developed the Micro Sinusectomy technique, which is now rapidly being adopted by general surgeons in Turkey and around the world.

FUE Hair Transplantation

We started the FUE hair transplantation method, which was new to the world and only performed in Ankara at that time, in Turkey. In 2004, I performed the first FUE hair transplantation technique in Adana and continued this practice until 2008.
In the same period, in 2006, we performed the first FUE hair transplant in Istanbul and for many years, I was the only doctor performing FUE hair transplants in Istanbul.
For transplants of eyebrows, beards, mustaches, and sideburns, where achieving naturalness is very challenging, I developed and continue to use the “needle implantation” technique. We achieve results that are much closer to natural than can be obtained with the traditional channel opening method.
